About

Everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

Where are you?

And what is Station 65? Born out of a need for a home during the great enshittification of the 2020s, I decided to create a space that was more under my own control. The name came from my love of Akureyri in Iceland, which can be found at around latitude 65° North. Being a scientist, I also liked the idea of a research station. Thus the Station 65 came to be and is where I experiment with music. Well, mostly music.

My Story

At the age of 12 a friend introduced me to alternative music. By the early 80s, I was old enough to run away to the city (Sydney, Australia) – not legally old enough to go to pubs, but that didn’t stop me spending every minute possible in the plethora of venues that were around. And there were many. I was probably around 16 when I picked up the bass and joined my first band. I spent the next 5-6 years playing in Sydney before running away, again, this time to Brisbane. I played for a while there and had the privilege of playing in a friends band ISIS for the CD launch of Ooze. This was at the Zoo and has become legend – we (they) put on a glam covers band to close out the night, which included a 20 person choir to assist with Bohemian Rhapsody. It was quite a moment.

I then went silent, pretty much for the next 25 years, during which time I again ran away to Geneva, Switzerland, where I’ve lived for the little over 20 years. A few years ago I decided to pick up the bass again and see if I could still play. I’ve spent the last 5 years trying to get back up to speed and in late 2022, accidentally ran into a band needing a bassist. By the end of 2023, we’d played our first gig, by spring 2024 we got a chance to get into a studio and this is now out on Bandcamp. I’m back.

As you may have figured out by now, I play bass. I also play a bit of guitar, which really should be a lot better after all these years, but it is mostly for song writing. At the moment, I’m trying to improve my singing and learn some keys. I’m also trying to learn how to record and mix, all of which keeps me quite busy..
